This page provides guidance on creating videos and recorded lectures in ways that align with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Only record class sessions if doing so supports your learning outcomes. Remember, recorded sessions shared with students must include captions, audio descriptions, and transcripts.
- Use Panopto, Zoom, or YouTube for creating or sharing videos because auto-captioning is automatically enabled.
- Correct glaring mistakes in the automatic captions, particularly mistakes that would inhibit understanding of the content.
- Verbally describe all visuals while recording your video. If you don’t do this, you will need to go back into your video to insert audio descriptions for visuals that include essential content not covered verbally.
- If you are recording a synchronous class Zoom session with the intention of sharing it:
- When you click “Record” make sure to select “Record to the cloud” so that your recording automatically saves with a transcript.
- If you expect to need the recording for longer than 120 days, plan ahead and enable to the Panopto-Zoom integration.
- If you are creating a audio-only recordings of your lectures, you will need to create transcripts. Visit Accessible Technology Services’ Transcripts webpage for information about transcripts and how to get assistance.
